Fire prevention week raises awareness about fire safety and promotes safety tips that families can use to protect one another. The national theme this year was “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety,” which aims to educate everyone about the different sounds smoke and carbon monoxide alarms make, as well as the roar of fire and fire truck sirens.
The City of Orange Fire Department hosted a fire prevention poster contest for Orange area schools that included grades K-5. This year’s participants included Little Cypress Christian Academy, West Orange Stark Elementary, and St. Mary’s Catholic School. Each winner received a trophy and a backpack filled with fire prevention goodies. The grand-prize winner, Jacob Foreman (LCCA), toured the Fire Station #3 on MLK prior to school and the earned a trip to school in the Fire Engine where he was greeted by the entire school.
Winners were announced the week of October 25th at each participating school.
